The hobbit.

The desolation of Smaug

Tolkien’s fantastic story, set in dark forests, blue mountains, and desolate valleys, takes us back to the old epic in search of the lost and snapped up home. On this journey, undertaken by a group of dwarves, a hobbit, and a wizard, all of them must reach the lonely mountain and defeat the dragon Smaug who wariness the treasure and the ancient crumbling kingdom. Along the way, a variety of creatures, enemies and adversities will appear, but also unexpected allies. The language of the film is the magical and extraordinary adventure, full of mythological characters and the story unfolds and grows around and the many trials and difficulties that arise on the road to recovery.



For those who are not so familiar with fantastic stories, this is a good opportunity to enter a magical world, which finally tells a story known to most: the search for their own, for something that once was and was true, may be the origin, some truth and also a dignity and honor.

In search it is represented in “The Desolation of Smaug”, as the land and wealth of the ancestors, what belongs to them and what they have been stripped of. Part of our history can be recognized in this plot. A place, an object, a truth of great value that must be recovered, that is why many battles have to be fought, such as an odyssey, which once started is almost impossible to go back.

From there onwards, as with any creative work, it is possible to travel within oneself in reflections and emotions that arise from subjectivity and the history itself.

The inherent need for human search, to go to the past, to find truths or to repair, perhaps is our illusion of recovery, because when we return there is not the same thing: neither the land of the ancestors, nor we are the same. However, on the journey to the past there is a reconstruction, a new creation, and unexpected discoveries about themselves (allies too). This is how the trip is not in vain and they can return with a treasure.

I remembered that house that flew, hanging on a thousand colored balloons, looking for a dream place, a dream shared with his beloved wife, by the old man from the movie UP. Although she was gone, the dream and the search were still worth it.

Why? Because getting there was one:

Way to find her again, to say goodbye and keep walking.

I asked a boy, who was my company during The Hobbit, what he liked best, and he replied: “I was impressed that after all, the dragon is going to be trying to destroy the city again” (… ) “It is not like other times, that the dragon could have defeated him or he could repent himself.” The dragon has no law and is very strong, I thought. Our dragons, both our internal threats, are regulated and we advance, but very often they reappear, they find us better or worse standing up and thus, the cycles.

En esta época al finalizar el año y empezar uno nuevo, nos disponemos a seguir buscando y nos deseamos unos a otros encontrar paz, prosperidad, amor. Puros tesoros! Buscados, encontrados y una vez más amenazados. En contraste, ciertas líneas de pensamiento en culturas orientales nos muestran algo distinto, interesante: dejar de buscar, observar y estar plenamente ahí. Me llega como una bella invitación.

Currently, at the end of the year and starting a new one, we prepare to continue searching and wish each other to find peace, prosperity, love. Pure treasures! Wanted, found and once again threatened. In contrast, certain lines of thought in eastern cultures show us something different, interesting: stop searching, observing and being fully there. It comes as a beautiful invitation.
